Skopje - Saint panteleimon - Ohrid - monastery of Saint Naum

DAY 1

Sightseeing tour of Skopje –Visit of the Skopje Fortress – Kale, Mustapha Pasha’s mosque from the 15th c. The Museum of Macedonia, with the Icons gallery, where two of the most important icons that exist in Macedonia, are exhibited – Bogorodica Pelagonitisa and Jesus Christ, as about 100 other icons. Walking through the Old Bazaar, rich with buildings of the different historic period, visit to the church Saint Savior where the visitors can see the wonderful wood carved iconostasis, Daut Pasha Hamam, the Turkish bath from 15 c., the Stone Bridge, the main square adorned with many new monuments, among which dominates the monument of Alexander the Great, the Memorial house of Mother Teresa and the Museum of Skopje.

DAY 2

In the morning, visit the monastery Saint Panteleimon. The walls of it are decorated with frescoes from the 12th c. The most famous is the Lamentation. Visit the Millennium Cross on the top of the mountain Vodno by cable car. Continue the tour to the wonderful Canyon Matka where tourists can take a boat ride to the cave Vrelo, rich with stalactites and stalagmites.

DAY 3

Skopje – Ohrid. On the way, a short stop in Tetovo, where the tourists will see the unique Painted Mosque, one of the rare examples of Islamic buildings with walls painted both on the inside and the outside. The way continuous by the river Radika, towards one of the famous monasteries in Macedonia, Saint John Bigorski, where the beautiful wood carved iconostasis is, and the miraculous icon of Saint John. On our way onwards is the nunnery Raycica, with the church of Saint George the victorious. The nuns in this monastery are making the special hats Mithra, for the high officials of the orthodox churches in Macedonia, Serbia, Russia, even for the bishops and archbishops in Africa.

Driving to Struga, the “The town of the poetry” and then to Ohrid.

DAY 4

Sightseeing of the historic city of Ohrid , since 1980 it is on the list of UNESCO. Visit the church Saint Sophia. Some of its frescos are from the 11th c., the ancient theatre, the Icons Gallery which is considered as one of the most important in the world, the church Saint Bogorodica Perivleptos from the 13th c. the Samoil Fortress, the church of St. Klement Ohridski and the site where the first Slavic university was established in the 9th c. Possibility to ride a boat and visit the church Saint John Kaneo, located on top of the cliff above the Ohrid Lake.

DAY 5

Around 30 km. away from Ohrid is the monastery of Saint Naum, which was established at the very beginning of the 10-th century. Because of the wonderful nature, the people say that it is the Paradise of the World. There is a possibility to ride a boat in the springs of Saint Naum to see the rocky and underwater springs. Driving back to Ohrid.

DAY 5

Around 30 km. away from Ohrid is the monastery of Saint Naum, which was established at the very beginning of the 10-th century. Because of the wonderful nature, the people say that it is the Paradise of the World. There is a possibility to ride a boat in the springs of Saint Naum to see the rocky and underwater springs. Driving back to Ohrid.
