Skopje - Kriva Palanka - Strumica

DAY 1

Skopje – Kriva Palanka. Start by visting the church Saint George in the village Staro Nagorichane. The walls are decorated with precious frescoes from the 14th c. Later on hiking to the 4.000 year’s old observatory Kokino. By NASA, it was ranked among the oldest observatories in the world (20 minutes walking from the parking place).

Later on, visit the one thousand years old monastery Joakim Osogovski. There is a nice setting of two churches, old dwellings, kitchen and other facilities.

Overnight in the monastery.

DAY 2

Kriva Palanka – Strumica.

In the north - eastern part of Macedonia, the nature has sculpted interesting figures, which according to a local legend are called Stone Dolls. Not far away is the small town of Kratovo, with interesting architecture, old towers and bridges. In the past, Kratovo used to be a rich mining town.

The monastery dedicated to saint Gavril Lesnovski, rich with frescoes, wood carved iconostasis, and the caves where the monks used to live is about 20 km from Kratovo..

Overnight in Strumica.

DAY 3

Strumica region.

In the region of Strumica, there are two churches about a millennia old. Saint Leontie in the village Vodocha, and the nunnery Bogorodica Eleusa, from the 11th c. Aside from the old churches, the nature of the region is beautiful as well, like the 40 m. high waterfall near the village Smolari (30 minutes one way walking thru the forest to the waterfall from the parking place).
